Deer Hunting

We offer opportunities for deer hunting in which we will take you to locations we have access to, which will maximise your chances of finding and shooting your desired trophy.

We can provide suitable firearms for you to use if required and as all our guides hold a current gun licence you do not require a gun licence of your own. You are more than welcome to bring your own firearm, although it is important to note that if you are coming to New Zealand from overseas there are forms and applications that you must complete. You can apply for a visitors temporary firearm licence. It is very difficult to bring a semi automatic rifle into New Zealand for hunting purposes but you should not have too much trouble bringing in a bolt-action sporting rifle.

Specific information relating to the temporary importation of hunting firearms can be found here.

If shooting your prey is not your goal we can also take you to the same locations so you can take photos or video footage of the wild animals in their natural habitat.

We have all the gear and equipment necessary to keep you safe in the outdoors and we take your safety very seriously.

Package prices for deer hunting trips will vary and will reflect the level of involvement and the resources required for your hunting experience. Location, transport and accommodation needs will also be a consideration when package prices are calculated. All meals are included in the package price.

If you are interested in a deer hunting experience contact us and let us know what you are looking for and we will work out a package and price to suit your needs and your budget.

Please note: The roar period in New Zealand runs from 15th March through to 10th May and peaks between 20th March and 25th April. Please let us know if you want to book your hunt specifically for this time.

Pig Hunting

We offer opportunities for pig hunting, in which we will take you to locations that will maximise your chances of catching a pig in its natural environment. The authentic New Zealand way of pig hunting involves going into the bush with hunting dogs. We provide trained and reliable hunting dogs for this experience. Normally we would take at least two dogs – a finder/bailer and a holder. The finder/bailer tracks and bails the pig then the holder will move in to hold the pig giving you time to get there and do the deed. If you are more interested in the adrenaline rush of the chase but are not too keen on finishing the job our guides are always able to perform this part of the hunt for you.

If you prefer, another method of hunting is to only take finder/bailer dogs and then to shoot the pig once it is contained. We can provide the necessary rifles or you can bring your own, although you need to be aware that if you are bringing a firearm in from overseas you will need to apply for a visitors temporary firearms licence and will need to complete paperwork in order to be able to bring your own firearm into New Zealand. Specific information relating to the temporary importation of hunting firearms can be found here.

If hunting the pig is not your goal then we can take you to the same locations to enable you to take photos or video footage of the animals in their natural habitat.

We have all the necessary equipment to keep you safe in the bush and we take your safety and enjoyment very seriously.

Youth Hunting Experiences

Youth are always welcome at Authentic New Zealand Hunting and Fishing and we cater for both experienced and novice hunters.

If you have a son/daughter/nephew/niece etc who is interested in hunting but has not yet had a chance to catch/hunt anything then we can design an experience for them also. For those wanting their first hunting experience we can organise a hunt for pig, deer, goat, rabbit, or possum, whatever they are keen on hunting. We will need the consent of a parent or guardian if the youth is under the age of 18. As with all of our experiences let us know what you are looking for and we will design a package to suit. Day hunts or longer, it’s up to you.
